Early Years
Children in our Bonsai Class follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Learning takes place through play-based activities, which are carefully planned and structured to help the children's development. There is also some 1:1 and small group tuition and whole class teaching, depending on the activity.
The areas of learning are:
- communication and language
- physical development
- personal, social and emotional development
- literacy
- mathematics
- understanding the world
- expressive arts and design
Progress in these areas of learning is recorded throughout the year in their "Learning Journey" folder and at the end of the year, children are assessed against the Early Learning Goals.
The assessment is based on classroom observation - your child will not be tested. Your child's school report at the end of the summer term will show whether their learning in each areas has been observed as "Emerging", "Expected" or "Exceeding" the related age expectation.
